Were you confused by the action-packed, plot-packed and overlong new Transformers movie? You're not
alone.
On Straight Up Hollywood, USA TODAY's entertainment podcast out of Los Angeles, movie reporter Bryan Alexander talks about how Transformers: The Last Night combined the ideas of a dozen writers covering centuries of Transformers mythology to come up with director Michael Bay's chaotic fifth franchise film.
But maybe the movie is just over our heads? BTW, The New Yorker called Bay "some kind of genius." We discuss.
Also on the podcast, we hear about what being on the Transformers set was like for young star Isabela Moner (besides having protective co-star Mark Wahlberg scare off her male friends). Moner is already one of the great criers of recent screen history.
TV reporter Bill Keveney fills us in on the reboot of the TV competition show Battle of the Network Stars.
Stick around for our "Last Call" segment, and you'll hear about an acceptance speech from Elizabeth Banks that entertainment writer Carly Mallenbaum says did not go as planned.
